Tale
Maurice and Katia Krafft dedicated their lives to exploring the world’s volcanoes. Their legacy consists of groundbreaking footage of eruptions and their aftermath, composed in this visually stunning collage. Sabat MaterTrad. Werner Herzog presents a documentary about French volcanologist couple Katia and Maurice Krafft.
I see the classic Mount St
I’d never heard of this couple and suddenly they’ve got two documentaries in short order. Herzog has the name and pedigree, but the other film has an Oscar nomination. It’s fascinating to see them back to back and compare the two. Herzog uses almost entirely the footage shot by the couple.
Helens eruption footage
I’m sure there are other non-Kraft footage to fill out the story. It’s very powerful when Herzog tells us at the beginning of the film that they’re about to die on that Japanese mountain. It’s like the introduction of a corpse in a murder mystery. Both documentaries use the couple’s haunting footage, but here their voices are absent.
He’s the one doing the ponzi
It’s Herzog’s narration, as in many of his films. Throughout the film, I wanted to hear the couple’s voices, or at least their words. It’s like a eulogy at a funeral, and that might be the intention. I have a better feeling for the couple in the other film.
That’s the main difference
